THOUGHT OF THE MOMENT:

Freedom,  Prosperity and Peace...

FOREVER.

think(ing) LIBERTARIAN in 2007

by

Mark Augustyn and Mark Solomon

We will start by saying ‘Thanks’ to Shane Cory of the Libertarian Party for asking us to provide this piece about our upcoming plans. To say that we are flattered would be an understatement.

With that said, what are a couple of hyper-passionate, motorcycle-crazy, Libertarian activists from Georgia going to try and accomplish in 2007?

As we saw in the most recent elections, the public’s awareness and knowledge of the Libertarian Party and its ideals is continuing to grow.  Just here in Georgia, as a group, our statewide candidates did better than we have ever done in terms of percentages received and vote totals. We received more media attention than we ever have. And these trends were not limited to just Georgia; we saw some historically strong results and media attention for our candidates across the country.

With America’s increasing thirst for options other than the two parties in charge, the time is ripe for selling, marketing, and promoting the party and its ideals of limited government and individual responsibility to as many people as possible.  The more outlets that exist to get this message out, the better it is for everyone involved in supporting the Libertarian party and what it ultimately stands for: the right to be left alone to live your life as you see fit.

Through thinkLIBERTARIAN.com, we will be looking to further broaden the appeal of the party by creating unique and thought provoking content and merchandise that appeals to Libertarians and as importantly, appeals to those who are curious and interested about what our party stands for.

THE ADVENTURES OF RICH & DICK, a thinkLIBERTARIAN original series which debuted in November of 2006, is just one example of our effort to broaden the appeal of the party.  With the explosion of video on the internet, the ability to get the Libertarian message out to critical masses of people has never been better.  Through humor, we plan to explore a variety of relevant topics as they relate to politics today.  As the series progresses in 2007, expect to see Rich & Dick in more situations that show the two parties for what they truly are: big spending, big government, big meddling, corrupt parties who have overstayed their time in charge by themselves.

The Georgia Libertarian Benefit Concert we sponsored last October (over $1,000 raised with over 100 in attendance) proved to us that music is another awesome avenue to take advantage of for promoting the Libertarian Party and its ideals.  As a result of this success, we are planning at least two thinkLIBERTARIAN.com sponsored benefit concerts for 2007 to raise funds and awareness for Libertarian efforts here in Georgia.  If we can convince the proper people, we even have designs on trying to expand on this idea by working to create a Libertarian benefit concert with a national appeal.

During 2007, we will be aggressively working to grow and populate the Libertarian Yellow Pages (www.libertarianyellowpages.com) which we truly believe can be a vital part of the Libertarian future for years to come.

With almost five hundred listings in its first two years of existence, our goal is to increase the number of listings on the site into the thousands.  Our criteria for listing is simple: if you have voted for a Libertarian candidate and have an offering, you should list yourself on the Libertarian Yellow Pages.  And now with FREE listings available, the site offers a great ‘zero cost’ opportunity to reach and be reached by Libertarian consumers.  The more we as Libertarians can come together in our business dealings, the more we can keep the money ‘in the family’ which can only lead to good things for us all.
